Poetry in the Arcades Competition

Cardiff has long been home to some of the best poets, writers and storytellers of Wales. Roald Dahl, Bobi Jones, and Bernice Reubens each called Cardiff home at one point in their lives, and the city’s rich literary heritage continues with present day writers such as Ken Follett and Peter Finch.

If you’re fortunate enough to be strolling down one of Cardiff’s seven historic shopping arcades, you might observe that the arcades have been transformed into a pop-up poetry exhibition, showcasing five works that seek to capture elements of the city we call home, and thus pay homage to Cardiff’s longstanding literary history.

Commissioned by Mighty Atom, in collaboration with FOR Cardiff and City of Arcades, each poem highlights the author’s connections to Cardiff. Whether it’s the proud history of Cardiff’s immigrant community, the warm glow of a summer in the city, or the arcades themselves and what they have to offer- these poems have been curated to highlight the best of the city.

Now, we’d love for you to get involved and enter this exciting poetry competition!

If you’d like to be in with the chance of seeing your own poetry displayed in one of Cardiff’s arcades, as well as the chance to win £250,  please click here and read the full competition details.

Entries must be submitted before St David’s Day 01/03/2020. Good luck!
